A GIFT FROM THE UNIVERSE: OLD & TORN

There is nothing more exciting than finding a book of poetry with its brown pages and torn cover, revealing how it has been enjoyed by readers over time.

Now, it's my turn to let this book take another journey, this time in my hands. It's the perfect material for studying the works of great poets before editing my draft. Don't judge this book by its age.

Owning a book with a cover designed by Jackson Pollock, filled with treasures from writers I admire like Sylvia Plath, D.J. Enright, and John Berryman, is truly special!

What are the odds? I discovered Jackson Pollock 10 years ago as I used his work as a reference in a  project (9-5 job) outside of writing.  His art interested me, and occasionally his name would pop up while reading books. Then, during a trip to London last year, I found this book in a second-hand store. I thought I was lucky with the contents that include Sylvia Plath, Norman Craig, John Berryman, and D.J. Enright, and I already loved the cover but never gave it much thought.

Last night, while admiring the cover's glossy finish and thinking about the cover for my next book, I was curious about the artist. In super tiny fonts on the back cover, it read, “The cover shows Jackson Pollock's 'Convergence' (Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York).”

I got a gift from the universe wrapped in a great artist's work.

I've come full circle with Jackson Pollock.
